DIA Disappearances
DIA Disappearances is a personal horror web series I created that explores the conspiracy-laden mythos of the Denver International Airport. Inspired by internet analog horror and found footage storytelling, the series follows an unfolding investigation into a cult that appears to be behind a string of unexplained disappearances. As evidence builds, a disturbing possibility emerges—that the cult has infiltrated the airport from within. The first episode takes the form of a debrief, reviewing disturbing case files and introducing the audience to the mystery ahead.
Purpose
Craft an original horror web series that blends analog horror, digital mystery, and found footage aesthetics.
Concept Development
I wanted to develop a horror series for a long time. I wanted to mix my favorites together to create something new so I knew I had to include bits of analog horror, digital horror, found footage, and supernatural elements. This is a passion project that is meant to explore each medium and see how they can interact together. I have personal work experience at the Denver International Airport and I thought that all the conspiracies surrounding it were interesting. I also know how eerie it can be in those tunnels and it’s a ripe area for a story.
Visual & Aesthetic Choices
Mixed visual formats: distorted security camera footage, faux archival files, digital glitch effects, and found footage.
Leaned into low-fidelity textures, VHS overlays, and analog color grading to match internet horror tone.
Designed title cards, map references, and custom UI elements in Photoshop to deepen immersion.
Production Decisions
Used After Effects for text animation, camera overlays, and glitch work.
Blender was used for some animated sequences
Edited the full piece in DaVinci Resolve, integrating layered sound design and ambient dread tones.
Created still assets and textures in Photoshop, including case file documents and corrupted evidence visuals.
Creative Challenges
Striking the balance between realism and stylized horror without breaking immersion.
Establishing tension without revealing too much in the first episode.
Developing a visual language consistent with analog horror while keeping the plot progression clear.
Reflection
The series successfully introduced a compelling horror concept while leaving room to build tension and expand on lore.
Viewers responded well to the grounded tone and slow-burn format, confirming the effectiveness of analog horror tropes.
This project allowed me to push my storytelling, compositing, and world-building skills across multiple disciplines.
