Mr. Brown Black Coffee Video

I was hired by a local retailer in Guam to make a promotional video for Mr.Brown’s new black coffee flavor. The video was supposed to be short with clean visuals that screamed coffee.

Roles: Cinematographer, Director, Editor

Purpose

  • Generate Interest for an upcoming product release

  • Create a video that can be looped in stores

  • Increase Sales

Concept Development

The concept was a simple and elegant video emphasizing the high quality and minimal ingredients in the new flavor. The turnaround time was about 24 hours. So I mainly utilized stock footage with the final shot being filmed in my house using a lazy susan, cheap coffee beans, a smoke machine, and my butcher paper background.

Creative Challenges

  • Short turnaround time

  • Having to create 3 separate concepts and rough drafts

  • Hundreds of takes to get the right shot with the product

Reflection

  • Quick thinking and execution are a necessity for a creative

  • Emphasizing the importance of having an existing library of references to pull from

  • Finding the right mix of minimalism and elegance to give the correct mood helped drive sales because of the way it made customers in the store feel
